Our challenge was to transform a 600+ page handbook online and provide a contemporary, user-friendly platform with secure digital access to a ‘essential reference’ for community and hospital pharmacists. Seamless integration of other systems, positioning for future growth, and continued accuracy and reliability was critical to project success.
The Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (PSA) produces the Australian Pharmaceutical Formulary and Handbook (APF24), an everyday reference guide to pharmacy practice which all pharmacists must be able to access. To align with contemporary expectations, PSA needed the APF24 to be transformed from a physical book into a modern, progressive digital platform.
The Challenge
Access control
The APF is PSA’s flagship product, and the digital version is one of the key components of their digital strategy. Tight access control was an important consideration, and we developed an API for the website that supports a combination of publicly accessible content and pay-walled content, which is only accessible to users who have purchased a licence via PSA’s eShop.
Successful MasterDocs and Drupal integration
PSA’s large team of collaborators already successfully use MasterDocs to author the APF, a complex technical document, consisting of +680 pages of content that is developed over a three year cycle. We integrated MasterDocs for content authoring in the backend with an intuitive Drupal interface. This gives PSA confidence that their content is accurately replicated in the public facing website and has increased engagement with this essential reference.
Project highlights
We delivered an integrated, secure, digital platform that gives pharmacists the knowledge their customer’s need.
- Worked closely with PSA, an existing MasterDocs customer to successfully integrate a Drupal interface with their CRM, eShop and MasterDocs.
- Optimised the website for mobile and tablet devices so that busy pharmacists can easily access content on the go.
- Delivered advanced search capabilities to quickly find information matching specific keywords and save their searches, as well as tagging content.
Timely, accurate, relevant and useful information at your fingertips
We realised PSA’s vision for a modern, scalable web based solution by delivering a digital platform in Drupal 7 that makes it possible for pharmacists to find accurate medicinal information on the go. It is easier and more efficient to use than their previous printed book and eBook.
